What is a parkerized barrel?

Parkerizing is a metal finishing process that creates a non-reflective, protective surface on metal. When used on barrels, it creates a matte gray finish that is resistant to corrosion and wear. Parkerizing involves immersing the metal in a phosphoric acid solution while passing an electric current through it. This causes a chemical reaction that creates a layer of iron phosphate on the surface of the metal, which provides protection against rust and other forms of corrosion. Parkerized barrels are commonly used on military rifles and other firearms, as well as on some hunting rifles and shotguns. They are also used on other metal parts, such as slides and frames, to create a durable, non-reflective finish.
